There are multiple components to casting any spell in AWWD.

First, you must have access to the spell through a feature of your Dreams, or have some other means of casting it (an item, scroll, supernatural ability, etc.).

Next, the spell must be usable for you. Some spells can be cast at-will, some once per day, some once per year. Certain Dream features may enable you to cast a specific spell more often.

To cast a spell, you must have a focus. A focus is a physical object that is the conduit for your power. Only a few Dreams allow you to cast spells without a focus, and often the scope of the kinds of spells you can cast without a focus is limited. If you require a focus for your spells, you must be wielding or wearing the object when the spell is cast. If your focus is lost or stolen, you must retrieve it to be able to cast spells again. If it is destroyed, the only spell you can cast is Infusion to create a new focus.

Most spells require you to speak words of power, make certain gestures, or use certain material components. If you are prevented from doing any of the actions a spell requires, you can not cast the spell.

Finally, if you are damaged while casting a spell, the spell fizzles and is not cast. You do not lose the spell and you can try casting it again, but you have to use another action to do so.

There are six categories of spells: Cantrips, Lesser Spells, Major Spells, Greater Spells, Epic Spells, and Armageddon Spells.

Cantrips are basic magic that almost any magic-user can cast. They are all at-will spells.

Lesser Spells are spells that require slightly more practice and power to use, and can vary in their usage.

Major Spells are the signature spells of the magic world, capable of many wondrous effects.

Greater Spells are the truly terrifying spells that have a large effect on the physical world.

Epic Spells are reality-defying, miraculous spells that only the select few are capable of.

Armageddon Spells are a whispered rumor amongst the Magrocy, and their existence is a legend to most any spell caster. These are spells that literally threaten all of existence with their sheer power.
